Kama La Mackerel invokes the voices of their Indo-African ancestors: those who were forced to cross the oceans to work in sugarcane plantations on the island of Mauritius, and those who died at sea and never made it to the shores. With this ritual-performance, La Mackerel honours the salt of those who came before us and those yet to come.

Sound-walks performance
A series of audio walking dialogues with the Oji-Cree / Mennonite artist and choreographer Lara Kramer, curated by the Black art critic James Oscar. Conversations will explore Kramer’s image-making and performative explorations spanning from her early photographic exploration of Portage la Prairie and Brandon Indian Residential School to her present billboard project In Blankets, Herds and Ghosts.erds and Ghosts.
In Blankets, Herds and Ghosts by Lara Kramer is presented by Dazibao, in collaboration with MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels), as part of Dazibao satellite.

Une série de dialogues sous la forme de marches audios avec l’artiste et chorégraphe Oji-Cree / Mennonite Lara Kramer, commissariée par le critique d’art noir James Oscar. Les conversations parcourront la création d’images par Kramer et ses explorations performatives, allant de ses premières incursions photographiques à Portage la Prairie et à la Brandon Indian Residential School à son projet actuel de panneaux d’affichage In Blankets, Herds and Ghosts.

Somatic Workshop
In this interactive workshop, we explore the fine line between illusions and realities. How real is reality? If all of existence is illusion-like (as proposed by several Eastern philosophical systems), how could this impact our emotional world, our behaviour and ethics? How would we relate if the boundaries between “self” and “other” dissolved? What extended queer kinship is facilitated by the philosophy and practice of nonduality?

Atelier somatique
Dans cet atelier interactif, nous explorerons la ligne fine entre illusions et réalités. À quel point la réalité est-elle réelle ? Si nous supposions que toute l’existence ressemblait à une illusion (comme le proposent plusieurs systèmes philosophiques orientaux), comment cela pourrait-il avoir un effet sur notre monde émotionnel, notre comportement et notre éthique ? Comment serions-nous en relation si les frontières entre le « moi » et l’« autre » se dissipaient ? Quelle affinité queer étendue est rendue possible par la philosophie et la pratique de la non-dualité ?
